Suffolk, Va. (August 30, 2010) – Bon Secours Hampton Roads Medical Group recently distributed book bags packed with school supplies for the children of Bon Secours families in need. Holly Wilson, manager of Physician Services, Bon Secours Hampton Roads Medical Group, who coordinated the project, says, “We decided to help families of employees by providing school supplies for children in grades kindergarten through six. For the last few weeks, the Medical Group has been collecting schools supplies to assist the children and the response has been overwhelming. We collected more supplies than we received requests for and filled over 25 book bags to capacity.”
While initially offered to only Medical Group families, the project was expanded to help all Hampton Roads area Bon Secours families needing help purchasing supplies for their children. This was made possible through the generosity of Bon Secours employees who donated an abundance of school supplies.
Wilson says, “The project started with the unit champions, our service excellence program cheerleaders. Each of our 25 physician groups has a unit champion. The groups focus on one project each month and in August, we focused on the book bag project.”
“I am very proud of the overwhelming response from Bon Secours employees. Everyone was willing to give their time and money to purchase the supplies. The unit champions did an outstanding job. We really appreciate their efforts. It was very humbling.”
