Portsmouth, Va. (November 05, 2010) – Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System today announced that the Heart and Vascular Institute at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center has been recognized as a UnitedHealth Premium® cardiac specialty center for Interventional Cardiac Care and has received a three out of three star rating. This designation means that Bon Secours Maryview has met rigorous quality criteria based on nationally recognized medical standards and expert advice.
To be considered for designation as a UnitedHealth Premium® cardiac specialty center, individual facilities must complete a survey and submit outcomes data through the American College of Cardiology (ACC) or the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). The Interventional Cardiac Care department was evaluated in quality matrices that included: mortality and complication rates; access key services like open heart surgery, electrophysiology program, and cardiac imaging. In addition, the evaluation included assessment of the staff providing care, and the complement of the medical center’s attending and admitting medical staff.
“At Bon Secours Maryview, we are committed to providing our patients exceptional care,” said Joseph M. Oddis, CEO, Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. “We are pleased to that our cardiac care has once again been recognized for our quality.”
United Healthcare developed the UnitedHealth Premium Cardiac Specialty Center designation program to give its members information about, and access to, cardiac hospitals meeting rigorous quality criteria.
