Oil and Water Do Mix When it Comes to Liver Health

What your grandmother has used for years to flavor your favorite dishes just may act as a natural defense in liver ailments. Recent studies abroad have tested the effects of extra virgin olive oil on lab animals to reveal that consumption showed a significant decrease in biomarkers of liver damage among those animals effected to toxic herbicides.

It’s no secret that olive oil is known for various health benefits. According to the Mayo Clinic, if one is going to choose a fat with which to cook, olive oil is perhaps the best of your available options. Extra virgin olive oil, or EVOO, is made of monounsaturated fat, which has been known to lower risk of heart disease. The less processed an oil is, too, the greater the chance for powerful polyphenols that improve cardiac health. Of course, these health benefits do not make EVOO a diet food – fat is still fat, so it’s good to exercise restraint when cooking.

One shouldn’t also depend upon one thing to guarantee good liver health. If you are interested in more natural methods for maintaining a filter and bile production, it’s important to continue drinking lots of water. Taking in up to 64 ounces daily works wonders in detoxification. Supplement this good habit with a diet rich in fiber and vitamins – broccoli, legumes, and lean proteins like salmon and chicken – and you are less likely to experience problems.
