The Risks of Inducing Early Labor

August 19, 2011 by BSHR Leave a Comment

Should you ask for induced labor? What can an early birth mean for your baby? Do you really have to carry your pregnancy to 40 weeks?

Dr. Angela Parson, an ob/gyn at Hampton Roads OB/GYN Center, discusses the risks of induction and the reasons why women should try to carry their pregnancies for as long as possible.

“In general, I think that the process of delivery should go as naturally as possible,” Dr. Parson says. “Even one, or two, or three weeks early can result in huge differences in the baby’s lung development.” Ultimately, the discomforts of the pregnancy are far outweighed by the importance of ensuring healthy development and a low risk delivery.
