Kids Need More Zzzs for Better Grades

Six- and 7-year-olds need a minimum of nine hours and as many as 11 for sleep to perform well in school.

A Spanish study of 142 primary schoolchildren found that many don’t get home until 9 p.m. or they don’t go to bed until 11 p.m. Children who slept eight or nine hours did worse at school than those who got nine or 11 hours of shuteye.

The study, conducted by the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Ramon Llull University, was published in the journal Cultura y Educacion.
