Teen Profanity Use Linked to Media

Teenagers who hear profanity as they watch TV or play video games are more likely to use swear words, according to a November study published in the journal Pediatrics. Using profanity, researchers noted, is a known risk factor for “increased physical and relational aggression.”

Researchers analyzed surveys from more than 220 middle school students. “The results showed a direct link in the viewing of media with high profanity, profanity use and subsequent aggression,” states a news release from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
