Top Three Worst Thanksgiving Desserts for Your Waistline

The holidays are a time for family fun and celebration. With all of the socializing and partying, holidays also come with a  lot of unhealthy foods. Listed below are some of the worst, most unhealthy holiday desserts.

  1. Egg Nog – Egg Nog is back on store shelves, bringing its incredibly high caloric and fat content with it. On average, an 8 ounce cup of Egg Nog has 350 calories and 18 grams of fat. That’s scary enough, but many of us don’t limit ourselves to just 8 ounces of the creamy white goodness. This year, pass on Egg Nog to save on the scale and select a healthier season treat, like Apple Cider, instead.
  2. Pecan Pie A la Mode – Pies and baked goods seem to be an ever-present temptation around the holidays. Unfortunately, if you’re try to lose weight this is not a guest you want at your party. One serving slice has 810 calories, 65 grams of fat, and 55 grams of sugar. Yikes! If you’re looking for a similar, but healthier, option, try eating a baked apple with some frozen yogurt.
  3. Holiday Dessert Beverages – Many fast food restaurants are coming out with a holiday dessert or beverage.  Beware! These drinks can blow your diet and pack on the pounds – through a straw. For example: a large holiday peppermint milk shake from Chick-fil-A has 930 calories, 31 grams of fat, and 127 grams of sugar. A small is STILL just as unhealthy with 660 calories, 23 grams of fat, and 89 grams of sugar.

Thanksgiving is nearly here, but it’s not too late for you to prepare yourself for the buffet table.  Instead of wondering how you gained so much weight over the holidays, learn which foods are loaded with hidden fats and calories and make your choices accordingly.
