Tackle Prediabetes with Diet and Exercise

If you’re one of the 79 million Americans who has prediabetes – a condition that leads to type 2 diabetes, you may want to seek the advice of a registered dietitian.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recently reminded consumers that “with the assistance of a registered dietitian, diet, exercise and weight loss can also reverse prediabetes,” a news release states. The average person with diabetes has annual medical costs of nearly $12,000.

“Don’t wait for a diagnosis to make the lifestyle change that can prevent diabetes and its serious complications, as well as significant medical costs,” said registered dietitian Constance Brown-Riggs, a spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
