The Doctor is In

The nation’s leading group of pediatricians is advising parents not to rely on in-store clinics for all their child’s medical care.

In many states nationwide, shoppers at drugstores or discount retail stores can find physician’s assistants and nurse practitioners, sometimes working by themselves, to diagnose and treat many illnesses in “retail-based clinics,” according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Although they are convenient and easily accessible, in-store clinics should not replace a child’s regular doctor who offers comprehensive medical evaluation and treatment, according to the AAP.
