Bon Secours Sports Medicine has invited all Hampton Roads residents to attend a free seminar series addressing the prevention and treatment of sports-related knee and shoulder injuries. There are three evening seminars scheduled on the southside and peninsula for convenience:
- March 27th in Newport News, Virginia
- March 28th in Virginia Beach, Virginia
- April 3rd in Suffolk, Virginia
These session will be co-hosted by the Bon Secours Orthopaedic Institute, Bon Secours In Motion Physical Therapy and Sports Performance, and our partners in exceptional orthopaedic care throughout Hampton Roads. Licensed physical therapists and orthopaedic surgeons will review common knee injuries often seen among active individuals – from high school athletic teams to baby boomers – as well as preventative recommendations and treatment options for those currently battling athletic injuries.
Knee injuries are a leading cause of sports-related surgeries among the 7 million students participating in high school athletics annually, according to a study published in The American Journal of Sports Medicine. At In Motion, the physical therapy team treats many high school students with knee injuries, but these types of injuries can often be prevented with proper body mechanics.
The Bon Secours Sports Medicine team hopes to help athletes and active individuals avoid unnecessary pain and expense, and continue to benefit from participating in sports by emphasizing the importance of injury prevention and proper injury rehabilitation.
Following the presentations, attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions of the experts leading the sessions.
