Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Improved Patient Outcomes

New minimally invasive spine surgery techniques are making it easier for patients with disorders of the spine to heal faster – with minimized trauma and less post operative pain.

Jeff Laurent, MD, is a neurosurgeon who operates at Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk, VA, where he says the minimally invasive spine surgery patient is “evolving.” Whereas neurosurgeons used to only rely on it for smaller, less complex surgeries, the latest advances allow a lot more freedom. “Eligible patients can run the full gambit,” Laurent says, “lumbar surgeries and scoliosis corrections can now be done with minimally invasive techniques. A wide variety of patients – in the right circumstances – can benefit from this.”
