Sunglasses: More Than a Fashion Statement

Many people wear sunglasses because they like the way they look. But proper eyewear can prevent serious eye damage.

Make sure you – and your children – wear sunglasses that block out ultraviolet rays, which can cause short-term and long-term damage.

Children are particularly susceptible to eye damage because a child’s lens cannot filter out UV rays, allowing more radiation to reach the retina, according to a report from The Vision Council.

Long-term problems from prolonged UV exposure include cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.
