It’s easy to let the kids stay up late at night during summer months when there are more opportunities for them to sleep later in the morning.

But now is a good time, before many public schools reopen after Labor Day, to start putting your children to bed earlier so they get enough sleep before the school bus arrives.

Children ages 5 to 12 need 10 to 11 hours of sleep, according to the National Sleep Foundation. Preschoolers need even more – from 11 to 13 hours.
