Simple Steps to Avoid Foodborne Illnesses

Many families can avoid food poisoning by make checking the temperature in their refrigerator and using a meat thermometer while cooking.

According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the fridge needs to be kept at 40 degrees Fahrenheit or colder. That goes for the one at the office, too.

Don’t forget to regularly use a meat thermometer.

In a 2011 survey conducted by the Academy – the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals – more than 75 percent of Americans said they do not use a thermometer to check if their food is cooked to a safe temperature.

Fewer than 30 percent said they regularly check the temperature in their fridge.
