Vitamin D Supplementation Does Not Prevent Colds

Taking vitamin D supplements does not prevent colds or lessen their severity in adults who don’t have a deficiency, researchers have found.

In fact, adults who took a supplement had just as many colds and missed days from work compared to those who took a placebo, according to the study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The findings come weeks after a different study found that giving supplements to children who did have a vitamin D deficiency significantly lowered the number of respiratory infections they had.
