Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System today opened an outpatient pharmacy on the Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital campus, as part of the health system’s continued efforts to improve access to affordable health care services. The Bon Secours Good Health Pharmacy enables employees, staff, patients, visitors and others in the community to obtain prescriptions and over-the-counter items, as well as consult with a pharmacist, just a few steps from where they work or where they see their physician.
Located adjacent to the main hospital at the first-floor entrance to the Mary Immaculate Pavilion at 12720 McManus Boulevard in Newport News, the Good Health Pharmacy offers competitive pricing on prescriptions, including a $4 generic prescription program. Customers can obtain many commonly used generic medications – treatments for heart, hypertension, pain, anti-inflammatory, antibiotics, mental health and diabetes – for $4 each. Physicians and providers can email or fax prescriptions, reducing a customer’s wait time. Hospitalized patients can benefit from the Bon Secours BedsideRX program, with a pharmacy staff member delivering medications to patients in their hospital rooms, and the pharmacist counseling patients on medications prior to discharge.
“We are pleased to provide our Mary Immaculate community with a quicker, easier and affordable option for obtaining prescriptions, right here on our campus,” said Patricia L. Robertson, CEO, Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital, at the pharmacy’s grand-opening and blessing ceremony. “Our employees will save valuable time by not having to leave work to fill their prescriptions, and our patients will have the peace of mind knowing that they can leave our care with the medications they need for their recovery, without having to stop at another pharmacy on their way home.”
The Good Health Pharmacy also offers cold and flu products, allergy medications, pain relievers, skin care lotions, creams and ointments, digestive health products and first aid items.
The Good Health Pharmacy was established in part by $53,000 raised by the Mary Immaculate Auxiliary, a group of 140 volunteers who initiated fundraising activities, including vendor sales and proceeds from the hospital gift shop and a thrift store, which were supported by employees, volunteers, visitors, physicians and patients.
“When Bon Secours first approached us about their interest in establishing a pharmacy that would give people easy access to prescriptions and medications right here on the Mary Immaculate campus, my Board jumped at the opportunity to make it happen,” said Fran Cook, president of the Mary Immaculate Hospital Auxiliary. “I applaud the wonderful volunteers who in just two years devoted countless hours to raise a significant amount of money for this important community benefit.”
The Good Health Pharmacy at Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital is Bon Secours’ third pharmacy to open in Hampton Roads; Bon Secours also has Good Health pharmacies at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth and Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk. On July 15, Bon Secours will open a fourth Good Health Pharmacy in Suffolk at the Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View.
“Bon Secours has long invested in the health and well-being of communities it serves through extensive wellness initiatives and accountable care, which include the Good Health Pharmacy,” said Michael K. Kerner, CEO, Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System. “We open this Good Health Pharmacy today thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Mary Immaculate Auxiliary, who shared our vision for improved access to affordable pharmacy care and services on this hospital campus.”
The Good Health Pharmacy accepts all commercial insurance and all Medicare Part D plans. This includes billing and taking assignment for Medicare and Medicare supplements for Part B medications. Customers can benefit from convenient payment options, including FSA and payroll deductions. Pharmacy customers also will find dedicated parking spaces close to the pharmacy entrance, giving them quick, convenient access. Hours of operation are 9:30am to 6pm daily; for more information, please call 757-947-3740, or visit the Good Health Pharmacy now located at 12720 McManus Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23602.
