Nearly 200 underprivileged East Ocean View children, grade levels K-12, are returning to school this year with a backpack full of school supplies, thanks to the generosity of Bon Secours employees. In response to a school supply drive sponsored by Bon Secours Healthy Communities, employees donated everything from pencils, lunch boxes and backpacks to tissues and hand sanitizers.
Joanne Merinar, Health & Wellness Coordinator and Community Liaison for Bon Secours Healthy Communities, says, “As part of our Healthy Communities initiative in East Ocean View, we collect school supplies for the underprivileged children in the community each year. Even though we didn’t get a fuzzy SpongeBob backpack again this year, we did get a Shrek “King of the Swamp” lunch box that made one special kindergartner very happy!”
Merinar adds, “Thanks to each and every one of you who took the time to help these kids start the school year off right. We even have some supplies left over to help those who need a little extra throughout the year.”
