Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center is pleased to announce that Megan J. Bennett, RN, BSN, nurse manager for Bon Secours DePaul’s Center for Birth, has been honored with Inside Business’ Top Forty Under 40 award for her work and leadership in advancing the care of new mothers and their babies. In the past year, the nearly 1,300 mothers who gave birth at Bon Secours DePaul were cared for under a new birth experience practice spearheaded by Bennett and her team. The practice instituted a shared-nurse system, in-room care of newborns and quiet time for bonding and recovery. The results have been overwhelmingly positive.
As a mom of three boys, Megan is passionate about providing the best care she can to area moms. Megan is known to remind her staff regularly that “Labor and delivery is their job every day, but it is a family’s once-in-a-lifetime moment. Families will remember everything about their birth experiences. They will even scrapbook about them. What do we want them to say about us? I want everyone to walk out of here saying that they had the best experience possible.”
Prior to serving as a staff nurse and the nurse manager at the Center for Birth at Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk, Virginia, Bennett was the nurse manager at AbbaCare, a crisis pregnancy center located in Winchester, Virginia. She was also a staff nurse in the labor and delivery unit at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Virginia. As a graduate from the Bachelor of Science Nursing program at Pensacola Christian College, Bennett is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.
