Long-Term Support Key for Weight Loss

A 2011 study showed that patients who received social support after weight loss surgery, especially those in support groups, lost more weight after surgery. At Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss Center, we provide long-term support so that you can achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

We encourage you to attend support groups both before and after surgery. These groups are a time to ask questions, talk about problems and connect with people who are going through the same weight loss journey. Our support groups meet at 6 pm on the second Thursday of the month at locations in Suffolk, Newport News and Virginia Beach.

In addition to support groups, after surgery our bariatric dietitians will continue to follow up with you after surgery, typically once in the hospital, six weeks after surgery and six months after surgery.  If you feel you need more support, you can meet with the bariatric dietitians for lifelong follow-up appointments at no charge. These appointments can help guide you toward better food choices and help you adjust your diet to fit your needs.

You can also sign up for personal training sessions with Bon Secours In Motion physical therapy.  These sessions begin six weeks after surgery and are provided at a discounted cost.

If you have a busy schedule and prefer to get help online, we also have a Facebook page so you can interact with other patients and ask questions. The page is supported by dietitians and Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss staff.

We want you to have all the tools and support you need for successful weight loss. Your commitment to losing weight is lifelong and so is our commitment to serving you. Find the next support group near you.
